Netflix expands gaming test as it buys a popular indie studio

Earlier this summer, we saw Netflix take the first step towards adding cellular games to its subscription service, and today the company puts more pressure on the gas pedal. Netflix not only launched its cellular game pilot to a pair of new regions today, but also announced that it had acquired the game development studio. If you need more indications that Netflix seriously breaks into the game, this is possible.

In a post to its website, Netflix revealed that he had acquired night school studio. Although not necessarily the household name, Night School Studio may be better known for his debut video game, Oxenfree. While specific details about what this acquisition dedicated is still slim, Netflix says that people at the Night School Studio will be “priceless partners because we build creative abilities and Netflix game libraries together.”

Netflix continues by saying that night school crafts under Netflix banners will be free for customers with “no ads and no purchases in the application.” Night School tends to focus on adventure games driven by narratives, so choose if Netflix wants to make games based on various exclusive performances. In a separate blog post, Sean Krankel Night School Studio said that the development would continue on Oxenfree II after this acquisition, so it seemed nothing had changed on the front.

Reuters also reported that Netflix had expanded its cellular game pilots to two new regions: Spain and Italy. This pilot was first launched in Poland back in August with Stanger Things: 1984 and Stranger Things 3: The game. Three new games – blast cards, jeeter ups, and shooting hoops – join the ranks of mobile netflix games today in all three areas where the test is available.

We don’t know when this test will spread to the United States, but we can wait a while. When Netflix first launched this gaming test last month, the company said that it was “still very, very early” and that it had a lot of work ahead. However, we will keep you on the loop in connection with the Ambition of Gaming Netflix, so stay here for more.
